winter beers. my memory of winter's beers is thanksgiving night me an a few friends would drag a barrel of gray's oatmeal stout into the wood's and plant it into a snow pile. build a fire and bull shit the night away, or atleast until my buddy andy decided it was a good idea to fall into the flames. miss those day's.
Don't know why I didn't post this earlier...Had this around Thanksgiving break with my brother who came down from Chicago Now I'm normally not a Shiner fan even though I am a native Texan, I do like their Bohemian Black Lager and I didn't want to tell my kid brother no. Its a Dunkelweizen made with Texas Pecans and Peaches. Right off the bat I can tell you that the peaches are the most prevalent taste in this. Didn't really get alot or any of the pecans. Didn't think I would like it so I started to chug it just to appease my brother but the taste had me taking my time with this one. I liked it but I can definitely see this being a love/hate beer for some people.
Liked the Christmas one from Shiner... Good after dinner beer while the wife and I put up the tree... Can't wait for the growler
Yeah you definitely get the peaches and sweetness in that one. I call it on of them "trouble" beers, go down so easy you end up drinking more than you realize.
Yeah I'm anxious to see how you like that Live Oak Hefeweizen but also kind of nervous about you receiving it okay. First time I've ever shipped something like that. If it works out maybe I can ship some to other TSO members who like Hefe's like Shaun Mason and JohnnyClutch
Shaun Mason knows I'm a big Troegs fan, so I'll throw this in here for those looking for some Holiday brews
That's some good brew there. Love their Dreamweaver wheat. Wish I could get my hands on some of their smaller batch stuff. I bet it's delicious.
Their Nugget Nectar is far and away the best beer I've ever had. Living in PA, I'm the beneficiary of finding it in the early spring. Can be difficult to track down, though.
We get a lot of the Troegs stuff down here in Cincy. Me and a buddy are going up to Pittsburgh for the Steelers game on the 23. We found a place that sells 1/6 barrel of Nugget Nectar and are contemplating getting that for tailgating.
That sounds epic. I'd love to take a drive out to Hershey to see their brewery some day, only about an hour from me.
Yeah that would be cool. Wish it was more in the way as I would go there whenever I make the trip to Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown. Just looked and it is kind of close to Pottsville. Might hit up Troegs and Yuengling on the same trip.
Awesome. I live in Lexington. Wish we had a few more of the finer beer stores. Not a very great selection down here except at a handful of stores. A friend of mine introduced me to Hudepol this summer after a soccer game.
Kind of like here. There is a great store north of the city and of course Party Source in Northern Kentucky. Just saw Hudy released a porter. Going to have to check it out. I like their Hudy Delight because the caps have the guess the saying from pictures game on them.
Tried this on Sunday for the first time and it was very good: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4408/26344 Had this as well and I'm sure there are a few guys on here that love this winter beer:
I found a watering hole close to campus here in Lex that boasted over 40 or 60 beers on tap. Had a huge selection of seasonal's as well. Almost tried the Seirra Nevada Celebration, will definitely try it next time.
